Treasure Hunting Report: Thrift Haul
I love showing you my treasure hunting report with a good thrift haul (or yard sale/estate sale/antiquing haul – although I have to say yard sales are my favorites)
I spotted these Shelley England molds at a rummage sale on my third time perusing a table. Definitely need to be patient as a treasure hunter, and look under every rock. I saw a set of 5 minis like this for sale for 78 British pounds.
The molds live a Mom’s and we have not used them for anything other than a photo prop!
This is an older find: these Sputnik-inspired earrings (that come with a matching pendant, too) are such a cool piece of history:
On the subject of miniatures, I bought all five of these wee wooden little jars (about the sizes of the jellies above) for $1.00! I plan to spend way too much time painting them for a play kitchen.
With play kitchens still on the brain, we scored some more vintage melamine pieces. Three different manufacturers, all the same shade of pea green (some are Melmac, some are not) At one time, this color was super hot.
Three (shame, not four) stainless steel egg cups for . . . you guessed it . . . play kitchen. Stamped Denmark.
Something for the real kitchen: my Mom found these gorgeous, lustre ware ramekins. They are pristine, never used. I have a feeling they might remain that way, as objects to admire only.
I also thrifted this beautiful brown ceramic pitcher – perfect for maple syrup on lazy breakfast days.
We found this sweet, mid-century platter for my Mom. It is the perfect bridge piece between her creamy, somewhat ornate everyday china and the stream-lined mid-century mod pieces she loves, because the color perfectly matches her china but the style suits her other serving ware.
I also found this turquoise and gold tiled tray, which is more my color palette than Mom’s so hopefully she won’t steal it:
I rarely find Dansk enamel, so thrifting this little yellow butter pot was a surprise!
These gold Regency-style wheat sheaf glasses are so glam, I could not resist them. I really love the wheat sheaf motif.
I popped into a thrift store I rarely frequent and I found possibly my favorited thrifted find of all time:
The most stunning glass dish, in my favorite color! It looks amazing in the living room. It picks up the colors in the art and just glows, like it’s made of sunlit ginger ale. At $6.99, it was a steal. And I’m not even going to try to pretend it isn’t an ashtray, but I love it anyway.
At a church rummage sale I found this adorable ceramic (pretty sizable) duck:
It sounds kind of weird, but I like its bum the best. Look how adorable it is:

At another church rummage sale, I found this set of melamine dinner plates, with a design in, you guessed it: turquoise! I think the Hubs and I will be stopping and picnicking on our next road trip with these. Oh and look, wheat sheaf motif again?
I also found this adorable vintage style BBQ. But guess what it is . . .
. . . a condiment caddy!
It is too cute for words (plus it’s, everyone together this time, turquoise!) I have NO room for this but it was so adorable, I had to buy it. I might pass it on to someone else or maybe Camilla needs a play BBQ to go with her DIY play kitchen?

I love the Dansk butter pot. It becomes a whole different ballgame when you know you're buying things you have to sell, doesn't it? There have been so many items at the store that I could hardly bear to let go (and still grieve their loss), but there's no way you can keep every great piece you find. Still, can be hard to say goodbye to some things. Somehow, Joe stays pretty objective and doesn't allow himself to get attached…but not me. 🙂
Oh, I'm so glad you feel the same way! I admire Joe's objectivity.
Oh gosh, I LOVE those jelly molds! I have a wee collection of vintage molds going on and I'm always on the lookout for them. Too bad they aren't for sale 😛
Really? If I could pry them from my Mom's hands I'd happily sell them to you. I'll keep my eye out treasure hunting, see if I can't rustle up some more 😉 Any particular styles (metal, ceramic, china)?
Any and all at this point, to be honest. I have both metal and early plastic ones from the thirties-ish.
Okay, I'll let you know if we happen to find any, and I'll zero in on ones from the 30s.
I'd be hopeless having my own shop…wanting to keep it all. Love all the Lotte you have! xx
You have the BEST luck treasuring hunting – I've been jealous over your glassware finds.
I love those glasses. They reming me of some that my parents have.. I always tell them I want them when they are gone. They think I'm morbid:)
Well, if they live forever you know where there's a set, lol. Most parents LIKE the idea of their kids wanting their things. My maternal grandmother is petrified of her stuff being thrown out. I feel like rolling up with a U-Haul and loading up her goodies just to prove she has nothing to worry about!!
Great shop and I love the name, its perfect! I have started my own shop and just bought the Etsy Sellers Kit by http://craftsellerskit.etsy.com ) and it’s awesome! I highly recommend it to anyone with an Etsy shop. I’m curious if anyone else read it? So far it's helped a noob like me setup my shop and avoid some pitfalls.I hope that I can get my store going soon because I want to keep staying home with my kids!!
I haven't read it and might need to check it out. Good luck with your shop! What do you sell?
Great finds and absolutely love the shop!!
Very cute shop! 🙂 I like the Baltic amber earrings and love the yellow Danks butter pot!!!Best wishes, yoojin
Thanks Yoojin!
No Wonder our moms would keep the china's
