New DIY Art For Bathroom

I have a pretty neutral, grey and white bathroom and I wanted to create some new DIY art in yellow because I’ve seen grey and yellow bathrooms trending and it’s such a cheery color combo.  I LOVE our bathroom (the before was gruesome) but it needed some colour.  The rest of the townhouse has so many colorful pops of artwork – even the guest half bathroom has a new DIY painting – that this bathroom looked out of place.  Not anymore!

I painted the edges, so I haven’t felt the need to frame it:

I love that you can see it so clearly in the mirror.  It adds a visible splash of color, regardless of my vantage point.  This room is difficult to photograph for me since it has no natural light.  But this painting adds a little burst of sunshine.

And I happened to thrift a pretty little vintage bowl (probably an ashtray lol) that matches!

  1. It is really beautiful! Somewhat reminds me of Jen's of Made by Girl.. and she is good so that's a compliment! Your bathroom is so calm and serene:)

  2. It looks lovely…It has really added a great splash of color to your bathroom. And you've done great

  3. Wow, Jane! That IS a huge compliment. Thanks! I have been playing around, a lot, with different compositions and colours – trying to step outside my comfort zone.

  4. Looks fantastic! I agree that painting the sides makes for almost instantaneous…and affordable…art for your walls. That's perfect for someone impatient like me. I hate sending things to the framer and having to wait to get it back. I want it on the wall as soon as I paint the last stroke. I think that's a great look for a modern home, and I'm especially becoming a fan of the deep profile canvases.

  5. I agree, Dana! I am way too eager to wait for framing. Sometimes I fall out of love with my own work really quickly. Thanks Dora & Shannon! And Dora, the shower curtain is by Marimekko.

  6. Love that yellow painting! You just have to do a post on it! Or did I miss it? I have a blank canvas that needs some love, but I am too nervous to start anything. Yours looks beautiful.

  7. I love your new painting: the size, the composition, the brushwork and the beautiful colours ……just perfect. Where are your little ducks? They're missing all the fun. Sad little ducks 🙁

  8. Hi Beatrice,Thanks! This is the only post about this painting. It is difficult for me to do a "how-to" about art (although I have a few on the DIY projects page) because I just move the brush around and sometimes the result is a little unintended. I have another painting in the works and will try to photograph the development and will post a bit of info about how this painting came to be, soon.

  9. Hi Mom, er, Susie. Thanks!! You know where I get the artistic gene from!! The little ducks are there – they live on the toilet tank (ie. out of the way and not in a high-hairspray-zone. You should come visit to see the painting in real life . . .

  10. The first thing I thought was that it looked like Jen's from Made by Girl too!! I think this looks absolutely amazing. I am loving the gray and yellow as well and I am actually thinking of re-doing my living room with this color palate.
